I've lived for some time in Central America and traveled around.
Si, the U.S.--both gov't and corporations--have been heavy-handed occasionally. However, most of what you hear from a distance almost disappears close up. Secondly, to think that the U.S. has had a free hand in, say, the last 50 years shows a lack of respect for the nations down there. They would not allow it. Most of them have learned to use the U.S. more than vice versus and THAT has caused most of the grief.
